About Us

Welcome to the Lorien Trust

The history

The Lorien Trust was formed in late 1991, after a group of experienced live role-players decided to run something better than the events that had been run before. After a few large meetings, this group of players formed the Lorien Trust. They set up a board of volunteer trustees to run the company and the events on a co-operative basis, with a set of business ideas and policies.

During the first few years, it became clear that major changes in the way the Lorien Trust was to be run were required and by mid 1995 the Lorien Trust became Merlinroute Ltd T/A Lorien Trust.

Merlinroute Ltd then restructured the way the business and events were to run. As the requirements of the players have grown and changed over the years, so too have our business policies and the events we run

Every year since then many improvements to the quality of the events have been made and yet we still hold true to our original policy 'live role-play events, run by live role-players for live role-players'.

Lorien Trust Mission Statement

The Lorien Trust is the UK's premier provider of festival style Live Role-Play events and we pride ourselves on being family friendly and open to all people, from all walks of life. Over our long history we have built up a safety record that is second to none and a reputation as an industry leader within Europe, making us excellent ambassadors of the Live Role-Playing community. Fully trained and qualified staff that are conversant in the latest techniques and industry best practises all work together to ensure an excellent customer experience.

We endeavour to provide a high-quality and immersive role-playing environment for people from all age groups and combined with the fact we continue to offer value for money, we also make an excellent choice for families and people on a budget. Our goal always has been and remains to be to allow for escapism from the stresses and strains of real world life.

With more than 30 related events per year, including the four main events of the year, we provide a living, breathing game world, incorporating unique themes generating a vast range of role-play opportunities and styles.

In addition to providing a unique experience, where possible we will also support local businesses and UK based charities. Also wherever possible we use environmentally responsible resources and suppliers.

"Live role-play events, run by live role-players for live role-players"

Who are we?

Andy King – Managing Director

Andy has been role-playing since 1982 and quickly realised that there was a need for fun, family orientated, fest style, role-play events. Eventually this led to the birth of the Lorien Trust, which has evolved into high quality game system that exists today. Andy’s vast experience in organising and managing role-play events succeeds in making LT events the most popular fest style events in Europe. Andy is an avid film buff, and greatly enjoys watching sci-fi and fantasy films. He is also an awful poker player (honest!) and is often found playing a game of poker or two at the in-game casino during events.

Chris Herriot – Event Organiser

Chris has been staffing Lorien Trust Events since the Gathering of 1994, when he decided to lend a hand during set up, and enjoyed it so much that he came back again… and again… and again. Chris has performed a variety of roles during his time with the LT ranging from Maintenance Man right through to Event Organiser, his current role, and so has the advantage of an in depth knowledge of many areas of the business. When he is not either at the LT Office or on site setting up and running an event, Chris enjoys looking after his Harris Hawk, Plato, and playing World of Warcraft. Chris’ LT character is an elven archer from the Black Forest in Teutonia.
